Artist: Kanaska Carter

Occupy Cred: The first one on the scene

Ottawan Kanaska Carter was a Day One Occupier, and she stayed for months. Rumor has it that her acoustic performance was the first song of the movement. It makes sense that her song is about discovering her own sense of responsibility: I was the only person to blame.

Next Stop: Occupy Providence

Posted by Kanaska Carter on January 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM Comments comments (0)

On a bus heading to Providence now. TheCatholic Workers Home that we stayed at last night paid for a ridefor all three of us. Two of us are now headed to Providence. The endgoal will be San Diego, LA or Miami. Lets see where we end up nextUniverse. Thank you so much for this blessing.

Sitting on the bus at the moment headedinto the unknown. All I know is that this occupation in Rhode Islandhas tents, food, cool people and a friend of mine named Spyro said hewould be there too.

A man on the bus was speaking to meabout being cautious and careful. I said I would have to buy a knife.Instead he reached into his pocket and gave me one. Then proceeded toshow me the best way to hold a knife so no one could take it fromyou.

Off we go into the unknown. Life is abeautiful experience indeed. Even though I got dumped last night bysomeone I wanted to break up with anyways, I am hopeful that now lifewill show me exactly what is required to fulfill my spiritual path.

Life is a spiritual journey. I mustalways keep this in mind.

Boston & Worcester Massachusetts - Day 2

Posted by Kanaska Carter on January 5, 2012 at 1:05 AM Comments comments (0)

I was given a free ticket to Bostonyesterday and took it.. I left with 5 other friends and ended upsleeping in freezing weather with three people in a 2 person tent. The condensation from our breath formed snow within the tent and fellon our heads throughout the night. One sleeping bag for three people.Legs squished and roots digging into our backs. Yay.

And now find myself stuck in Worcester. Is it for a reason? Lets see how the universe unfolds its self.Music. Life. Go with the flow of how the wind shall blow you. So itshall be done. Just ended yet another relationship tonight. So manylies. I feel blessed to be free again.

What is the next destination?Providence? Miami? Kentucky? Amsterdam? Who knows. Show me universe.

As I wish, so mote it be. Amen.

Day 74: Occupy Wall Street

Posted by Kanaska Carter on November 28, 2011 at 5:10 PM Comments comments (0)

So a correction has come out in 54 related articles so far stating this:

In a Nov. 23 story about a music project to help raise money for Occupy Wall Street and other Occupy groups, The Associated Press reported erroneously that it was the movement itself that was creating the benefit album and that all money raised would go to the nonprofit Alliance for Global Justice. The project is being done by a group of artists called Music for Occupy, which is not a part of Occupy Wall Street. Half of the proceeds from sales of the CD will go to Alliance for Global Justice, to be put into the Occupy Wall Street general fund; the other half will be distributed evenly among other Occupy general funds elsewhere.

In the same story, Kanaska Carter's first name was misspelled. It is Kanaska, not Kaneska. Carter did not write "Something's Got to Give" with Matt Pless; Pless wrote it.

....

Thank you Universe!

Day 67: Occupy Wall Street & Churches

Posted by Kanaska Carter on November 23, 2011 at 1:10 AM Comments comments (0)

Day 84 of the Occupy Wall Street Movement. Since the raid last Tuesday much has changed within the actual organization of the movement for Occupy Wall Street.

I have since found out that during the raid by the New York Police Department officers were notified that two six-weed old pitbull puppies were inside of a tent. Two officers proceeded to stomp on the tent and crush the puppies to death with their boots. Another small black dog named 'Mister' was pepper sprayed in the face and was hospitalized. My friend Jackson is devastated.  He is their caregiver.

Many other people were arrested, beaten, pepper sprayed and intimidated all night. The police arrived like cowards at 1AM and sweep the rug out from underneath us all. The occupation was becoming too big for itsself. There were little to no walkways remaining. Violence had  been a daily occurrance.

I have been harrassed 3 times by the security hired to watch Liberty Plaza. There are two security guards there I have noticed enjoy creating rules out of thin air.

-No cardboard signs
-No tarps and tents
-No musical instruments
-No large backpacks
-No large amounts of food
-No standing on the marble seating areas
-No lying down or sleeping

This morning caution tape which has now strategically covered our regular seating area has been tied to the trees sectioning off where we would meet daily.

There is hope within the midst of this. Others are meeting, including myself to discuss future events, marches and actions which we feel as a group will help us to further this movement.

We are not going anywhere.

This is a peaceful movement and even if members of the NYPD refuse to be peaceful, we must show them love. On the other hand we cannot allow for them to murder and pepper spray innocent animals. We cannot allow for them to assault occupiers. We cannot just sit back and accept this as okay within our society.

I love you all.

Day 60 - Occupy Wall Street

Posted by Kanaska Carter on November 16, 2011 at 2:55 AM Comments comments (0)

Last night at around 1AM the NYPD decided to show up in riot gear with over 100 paddy wagons, a huge bus with a surveillance antenna on the top, handing out eviction notices to us all stating that we had to leave the park.

People were beaten, pepper sprayed, people tied themselves to trees in an attempt to peacefully make their point known. The trees were cut down....insanity.

All of our belongings, tents, media equipment was thrown into dumpsters. Allegedly we will have the opportunity to claim our belongings....I highly doubt that will go smoothly, seeing as how anyone can claim anything they wish. Many things will be lost or damaged.

A judge is ruling right now as to whether or not we are allowed to Occupy Zuccotti Park. Please lord, if not there, then someone else.

I am praying for my brothers and sisters who need this home returned to us.

I get a feeling at 3:10pm we will be ruled to STAY in Liberty Plaza. Lets see if I'm right or not. ;)

As I wish, so mote it be.

As I wish, so it is already.

Amen.

Day 53 - Occupy Wall Street

Posted by Kanaska Carter on November 7, 2011 at 4:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Its Day 53 at Occupy Wall Street.

I am hosting my own livestream show called RevolNEWStion which will air in an official time slot tonight from 10pm-midnight.

It feels as if a rapid change has occured almost overnight. My life is nowhere close to how it was 53 days ago.

How did this beautifully chaotic community form within the blink of an eye?

All working towards helping this movement. Yet I've been in about 5 yelling matches in just one morning. I am trying to be patient, yet provocateurs surround me.

I am being called a 'police informant' on the livestream chat. It frustrates me. I only wish to do good for the world and apparently 'Anonymous knows' who I am? I am SO tired of the judgement.

Its like last year during the olympics when the tabloids slandered my name in Vancouver.

I've officially realized that if you ever wish to help the world in any way, there will ALWAYS be those who wish to bring you down.

Allow it to make you stronger. I am so tired of all this childishness.

Only Peace.

Only Love.

Only Compassion.

Success is ours.

I Love You All.

WBAI 99.5 FM Radio Interview - 3AM - In The Moment

Posted by Kanaska Carter on October 21, 2011 at 6:55 AM Comments comments (0)

Just returned from an interview at WBAI 99.5 FM with Ibrahim Gonzalez alongside 6 other beautiful souls who are occupying Wall Street.

The synchronicity of the whole experience was incredible. Just one night before I found myself crying because I felt as if the media was attempting to make the musicians here appear as if they have no political or positive message to share with the world.

Then by 'chance' I am given an opportunity to sing a song to the world.

We all followed this man with a video camera all the way to 120 Wall Street into his studio.

The show aired from 3am-5am.

One man from Tennessee named Fetzer, Ibrahaim from Africa who experienced war first-hand in his country, Jacob who was promoting his new broadway musical, a man from New York City named John, myself and another man I am unable to remember his name unfortunately.

The whole night felt so magical. One man claiming our appearance did not allow for us to be taken seriously, another was playing his accordion, a third full of passion as he spoke of the corruption within our world and another telling us of how his friend now jobless and in his late fifties/early sixties --now without health care and income comes by to cut grass just to make some money to survive.

Many people called in, a couple I knew. I had met them in person. One man, his daughter was molested and now has oral herpes at the age of 4. It breaks your heart to hear these stories. I remember meeting him and suggesting he research MMS2 to heal his daughter.

There was a moment when two of the men began to fight and I just wanted them to stop. It became very childish, but very human. Very real. Fetzer and I tried to stop the fighting it got to the point of Fetzer yelling and leaving the room and me telling them to shut up.

Despite this, we continued the show. It all felt so surreal.

It was beautiful. The whole night. Afterwards we were invited into Ibrahaim's studio. Jacob played accordion and sang, Ibrahim played piano and I sang while chatting with my friend Fetzer.

I will forever remember tonight. We were invited to return next Friday morning at 3am. I feel so blessed. So grateful. All I feel in this moment is love.

Freedom for all.

Occupy Wall Street - Day 29

Posted by Kanaska Carter on October 15, 2011 at 11:35 PM Comments comments (0)

We occupied Time Square today. Tens of thousands of people everywhere. Amazing.

The most beautiful moment was looking up at the crawl of ABC saying "Occupy Wall Street Movement Goes WorldWide" ...the crowd went WILD!

I have to say I felt my heart chakra vibrating quite a bit in that moment. We are winning.

I stayed for a few hours. Saw the riot police show up. Saw a woman get arrested. Played some music. Thats all I wanted to do. I felt drained from all the chanting happening around me and standing up in the sardine can of people.

This is what the Venus Project was aiming at ....except better and bigger than we expected.

Conscious Communities Worldwide. For the people BY the people.

Equality. Freedom. Peace. Love.

I wouldn't want it any other way. I feel so blessed to be a part of booking entertainment, facilitating, media and comfort. So blessed. I am so happy.

Day 23 - Occupy Wall Street

Posted by Kanaska Carter on October 11, 2011 at 3:25 AM Comments comments (0)

-I have been staying here into week 4 now I believe. Just over 3 weeks. It is October 11th at 2:54 in the morning. The day has just begun. In Canada I would thinking of 'What am I grateful for?" I feel so blessed. Only good shall come from this. I have heard talk of gangs wishing to attack our community that we have created. Statements of violence needing to occur in order for us to reach our goal of peace makes me wonder. I will exist in a positive vibration.

I do not wish for casualties amongst my friends. I have so far seen much police brutality and violence from the other side. Many are mad. They are frustrated. Understandable. They are victims of this fucked up world that we are born into. This physical body is but a vessel. The physical body is simply a tool to enable us to achieve that which we must accomplish within this physical realm.

I wish for only peace to occur from this movement. Allow us all to be peaceful. Why must we fight? There is a way. Show us a way.

Many fights have occured already amongst one another. When will we realize that in order to achieve peace is to be peaceful. Even I am guilty of being angry today. When something crumbles in your world anger can happen. Out of frustration. You lose your mind. You lose your peaceful self.

Mayor Bloomberg allegedly tweated that we are allowed to occupy Liberty Square INDEFINITELY! This is big. This is something to celebrate.

I met Susan Sarandon today. But of course didn't say something smart instead I shook her hand and said 'I have seen all of your movies.' WOW lame. hahaha

People on the livestream chat requesting names for Ice Cream because allegedly Ben and Jerry's supports us. They donated a lot of ice cream one day I remember near the beginning of the movement.

I no longer wish to call this a protest. This is a movement.

I must find a way to represent myself to the best of my ability instead of being sloppy with how I represent myself. I still will remain who I am.

No matter what.

Only Love Will Prevail.

Day 14: Occupy The Concert

It is now 2 weeks living at Occupy Wall Street. I am dedicated to sleeping there every single night. No tent for the past two weeks. During the first three days the intimidation from the police was quite intense. Now it has slowed after the estimated 93 arrests on the Saturday which has just passed. This brings our arrests total to around 120 or so.

Many of my friends have been arrested without reason. Without charge. Many of my friends were beaten, one lost a tooth, one recieved a staff infection from being in jail. One was arrested for writing on the sidewalk with chalk. One was arrested for holding an american flag...allegedly it was blocking the view of the policeman's camera. Many of my friends were pepper sprayed in the face/eyes.

Ever since the day when the cops swarmed Liberty Plaza over 1 1/2 weeks ago, ripped our tarps away and began throwing/shoving people around who were innocently defending themselves...we've gained much exposure worldwide. This movement is growing.

Occupy Wall Street has gone viral. One video has gotten over 1 Million hits in about a week. This is a video of my friend being pepper sprayed after cops surrounded 5 girls with an orange netting and then when they asked what they were doing, one cop pepper sprayed them in the face. The logic makes no sense. I do not understand.

The cop who assaulted these people is now going to be held accountable for his crimes. I do not however agree with the group Anonymous releasing the information of his family along with his information. I do wish for these people to be held accountable for this oppressive behavior. It is not right.

It really feels like a family out here. We are all caring for one another. Loving eachother. Helping eachother. There are many workgroups such as Media, Facilitation, Arts and Culture, Benefit Concert Committee (which I am organizing alongside other promoters/organizers such as Kelly Heresy who has been a HUGE help thus far), Tactical Team, Food Committee, Medical, Tobacco, Comfort, Sanitation, Security, Legal and much more.

As much as the human mic can be very draining while facilitating. It can look like a cult from the outside. When the police repeatedly insist on no sound amplification it makes it hard to hear anything. So we must repeat everything in short sentences. It has gotten to the point where I do not wish to attend any General Assembly's, due to this reason. At the same time it unites us all as one voice. And it kind of reitterates many of the points as you repeat them. ...Still not digging the idea. We need sound amplification!!!!

We keep hearing for 'One Demand' to be created. My one demand would be to create these communities worldwide. With free food, health care, dental, library, and all of the other resources which are available to us. We need these communities to be created worldwide. In order for change we must BECOME the change. We are doing this, but we need it on a massive global scale. :) Rapidly this goal is being achieved.

This has all formed based on volunteers. We are all doing this because we WANT to be doing this.

It really feels as if my whole life has been building up to these past two weeks. I feel as if I am meant to be here. And now I know why. I am meant to be organizing this event and wish to continue to organize more and more shows for Occupy Wall Street. This is my calling. And now I have a great team of individuals to help me to accomplish this properly.

I am living my dream.

The support from all over the world is overwhelmingly beautiful. It is incredible. Free food/donations/support/love from all over the world!! It really touches my soul.

If it wasn't for the arrests that have happened as of late I feel the exposure would not have been as great.

We are in the belly of the beast. The soul of society is muddled and we are all coming here searching for a new way. Fighting the oppressive mind. Fighting with love.

I will keep you all updated as this journey unfolds.

I am not marching to avoid being arrested. I am from Canada and never knew I would be involved in this at this time. I came here to collaborate with the conscious rappers I am working with for my next album which will finally be released on the 8th of October. 9/11 activism was another reason why I came to this country. But Occupy Wall Street - This is my Life's Purpose!!! And I am living the dream.

I love you all.

Freedom To Choose!

Posted by Kanaska Carter on May 3, 2011 at 12:14 PM Comments comments (0)

Alright so I choose not to vote. Is that so bad? Apparently if I do not vote, I do not have the ‘right to complain’. It has almost become a catch phrase in my ears. You do NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN IF YOU DO NOT VOTE. Hmm... Well, before this system was put into place by the banks and the white man, did the natives votes? Did they go put an ‘x’ or a checkmark on the circle next to the picture of some white man or woman? Highly doubt that. I am a mixture of many cultures. I am part Irish, my grandmother (RIP) was full Mi’qmac, I have been told I also have Spanish and French in my genetic make-up somewhere. So...here I am writing this. And now we're supposed to believe that Osama Bin Laden is dead? After we were all told in late December, 2001 that he had already died. A funeral was held for him allegedly. And now a photoshopped image of him dead appears. They DNA test him within hours of killing him, then dump his body in the river?? BAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Omg...it just keeps getting funnier every day...oh man stop....I really can't laugh anymore it hurrrts. hahahaha I don’t vote. Never have. And I don’t believe I ever will. “Get out and vote!!! “ Is what everyone keeps saying. #1: I live nowhere near a city. #2: I DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE SYSTEM! Where is the circle on the Canadian ballot with the picture of a native chief in full headdress? I do not see it. Only 3 white dudes and a white woman. I am far from racist. However, should our country not have this option on the ballot? Free tipi’s(tepee’s) for all! Free Education for all! Free CLEAN Water for all! No Genetically Modified foods for all! I was called lazy today, because I do not vote. The day I VOTE is the day that a native shaman is on the ballot. <3 I choose to NOT VOTE FOR A BANK! THANK YOU! THERES MY VOTE! I vote to live as the Natives did years ago, as they do today and as many communities do in 2011. As I have already stated. I am a mix of racial backgrounds. NEITHER IS BETTER. But...fairness. Equality. This is Better. We are voting for someone to govern our country for 4 years? I believe aboriginals deserve a fair chance at governing the land that was stolen from them many moons ago. Flames & Ashes - In The News Again, Folks

Ya know it is funny how the universe works.

((((((( <3 )))))))

In The Ottawa Citizen and The Ottawa Sun again:

http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/stove+catches+fire+injures/4643685/story.html

Just on Monday my kitchen was accidentally set on fire when a friend of a friend left a pot of oil unattended. Then passed out. We were all upstairs when this happened.

I could smell something like burning rubber. My roommate Shawn went downstairs to check it out and then all I hear was “Get out of the house!! Fire!!!”.

When I opened the door I inhaled black smoked and began choking. Saw my friend Ron John, I put a pillow over my face and told Ron Jon to put my sweater over his face but he couldn’t understand what I was saying. So we just ran out as fast as we could while warning our roommates Erin and Matt who were in the room next to us to get out as fast as possible.

Turns out later they were about to go to sleep. And the fire had already burnt through the ceiling almost to their bed.

There were no batteries working in any of the fire alarms. So the fire had spread so fast and no one even knew what was going on. This could have been fatal.

The fear is so overwhelming to think about. That was one of the scariest moments of my life. Running out into pitch blackness with a pillow covering my vision running down the stairs. Not knowing if I am going to run into flames and burn to death or if I am going to get out alive.

LUCKILY we all made it out alive. Shawn has 2nd degree burns on his hands and we suffered from smoke inhalation. We were all too stubborn to get oxygen from the paramedics who offered it. I didn't really feel the effects until' later on that night.

The damages to the house were pretty severe... $85,000 – everyone was displaced for up to 6 months while doing repairs.

Which means ------ find a new home. You are homeless.

So once again I found myself homeless. Two years in a row.

People heard of the fire and began asking me if I needed anything, if I needed help. I have such a great support system here in Ottawa. I feel so humbled by this kind energy.

I felt hopeless the past few days up until’ this afternoon.

I had received a message a few days ago but was too stressed out to respond.

My friend Eileen showed such amazing generosity and invited me to stay in her spare room. Wishing to help me promote my music via festivals in July at Music In The Pines and August for a Women’s Festival and other events. I am honored. I am floored. I am blown away by how beauty can come from turmoil in times such as these.

The Universe indeed works in mysterious ways.

Road trip in 8 days. Odd timing for all of this.

As the flames burn away the old life a new life is born from the ashes.

Blessing in disguise? We shall see.

Thank you Universe for all that you have given me.

I feel SO BLESSED.

My album "Conscious Nonsense" is set to release at the beginning of May. "RevolNEWStion" magazine/online newspaper is set to release the first week of May.

I wish to help others and myself via my music, writing, art, and actions.

As I wish, so mote it be.

Amen.

It was always burning

Since the world's been turning

But we tried to fight it"

Chakras & Vibrational Energy

Posted by Kanaska Carter on March 26, 2011 at 2:15 AM Comments comments (0)

I find myself writing more than usual these days.  Focusing on Chakras and vibrational energy....sounds associated with this...

Love for all...

Visit this link: http://www.crystalinks.com/chakras.html

Chakras and Sound

No       Chakra     Note     Color

8                              C '

7          Crown        B        Violet

6       Third Eye      A        Indigo

5       Throat           G        Blue

4         Heart            F        Green

3        Solar             E        Yellow

2       Sacral            D       Orange

1       Base             C          Red

So from my understanding there must be a particular vibration or sound associated with the vibrational pattern of a chakra.

This reminds me of the pyramids in Egypt. A source previously stated to me via an article I read atleast 5 years ago.

In this article the group upon reaching the corner of the pyramid they were told to approach - had to wait until' a specific moment in time to play High C' amplified in order to enter.

According to the article when High C' was amplified by close to I believe the number was 10,000-- A particular stone moved on what appeared to be nothing at all. No strings attached. No electrical or other source pushing the stone. It just moved out  and gave space to enter the pyramid walls. They noted an indented line going along the bottom of the stone. Perhaps a vibrational note of High C while amplified would project an energy that could potentially enter this slit along the underside of the stone causing a shift for the stone to move. The researchers claim that there was only I believe 7 minutes or less that the stone would stay open and then it would shut closed. Giving hours before they would be able to potentially escape. Upon entering they describe it being a cramped atmosphere. There were 52 or 54 steps and it takes 3 1/2 minutes to take one step at a time. The dust would go so high that in order to breathe properly they would have to go so slow.

The whole trip down was I believe 2-3 1/2 hours down and back.

Upon reaching the bottom they stated that it was spotless as if it was immaculately cleaned only moments ago. When comparing the dust the dust from the stairs to the cleanliness of the room inside it makes one question how? Is this room cleaned daily or every so often?

Is this metal/mineral used to create these objects unable to attract dust or can dust not exist in this areaor  can it not attach itself to the metal/mineral. Potentially the atmosphere is unable to  contain particles/fibres which would produce dust.

There were strange metal disc shaped objects with various symbols and strange writings on it. I believe the discs were golden.

There was also strange texts and a machine when they used it a sound/vibration occurred and it could lift up a large stone and move

it from one side of the room to feet in the air to the other side of the room.

I have also read about some pyramids that one is unable to enter unless they are in the vibration of love and are only exuding the vibration of love.

It makes one wonder.

The Crown Chakra is C. What does it all mean? Hrmmm.....

If the Crown Chakra is the highest vibration equaling High C would High C not equal the vibration of Love or the vibration of enlightenment? So in order to be in this vibration this note would allow one to instantly feel this emotion potentially coupled with mentally being able to visualize something which would allow the self to see love. Once the Heart Chakra is vibrating would this allow one to then draw experiences of love to them.

This excerpt is interesting it speaks about how when placing a flashlight under the chin it allows for the person looking at you to seeopnly the eyes which are the windows to the soul -- the image changes into many people as you focus on the self.

"Some may not be human, all of whom are aspects of your soul experiencing in other grids."

Time To Become Like The Trees

Up Late...

What  to do.

Thinking about what to do with life.

Cutting each day with this sharpened knife.

Marking my skin.

With how I feel inside.

A tree speaks wisdom through silence.

Vibration.

I observed once after injesting mushrooms.

A semi-circle of trees. All had faces like elderly men.

Trees are so wise. For they do not need to speak how they feel within.

So I, myself feeling misunderstood - mark my own skin.

The pain brings me one step closer to them all understanding.

Maybe if I become a tree of words and symbols. Then they will see.

Yes. I will envision this day.
When we all just see what is within one another and we do not judge by the exterior.

There will be no need for war.

No need for extreme war anyways. There will to some degree always be some sort of conflict and disagreement. Inevitable I believe.

But now it is time to become like the trees.

Feel the one energy.

Feel the vibration of love.

Avoid conflict.

Keep your heads high in the sky. We're all flying high.
Conscious Nonsense Strengthens my lenses.
Bend with it.
Become One with it.
Whatever that ''It'' is for you that makes you feel happy.

See yourself in another. No discrimination. No confrontation.

Peaceful integration of all nations.

I love you all.

Peace - Love - Freedom
