Just on Monday my kitchen was accidentally set on fire when a friend of a friend left a pot of oil unattended. Then passed out. We were all upstairs when this happened.
I could smell something like burning rubber. My roommate Shawn went downstairs to check it out and then all I hear was “Get out of the house!! Fire!!!”.
When I opened the door I inhaled black smoked and began choking. Saw my friend Ron John, I put a pillow over my face and told Ron Jon to put my sweater over his face but he couldn’t understand what I was saying. So we just ran out as fast as we could while warning our roommates Erin and Matt who were in the room next to us to get out as fast as possible.
Turns out later they were about to go to sleep. And the fire had already burnt through the ceiling almost to their bed.
There were no batteries working in any of the fire alarms. So the fire had spread so fast and no one even knew what was going on. This could have been fatal.
The fear is so overwhelming to think about. That was one of the scariest moments of my life. Running out into pitch blackness with a pillow covering my vision running down the stairs. Not knowing if I am going to run into flames and burn to death or if I am going to get out alive.
LUCKILY we all made it out alive. Shawn has 2nd degree burns on his hands and we suffered from smoke inhalation. We were all too stubborn to get oxygen from the paramedics who offered it. I didn't really feel the effects until' later on that night.
The damages to the house were pretty severe... $85,000 – everyone was displaced for up to 6 months while doing repairs.
Which means ------ find a new home. You are homeless.
So once again I found myself homeless. Two years in a row.
People heard of the fire and began asking me if I needed anything, if I needed help. I have such a great support system here in Ottawa. I feel so humbled by this kind energy.
I felt hopeless the past few days up until’ this afternoon.
I had received a message a few days ago but was too stressed out to respond.
My friend Eileen showed such amazing generosity and invited me to stay in her spare room. Wishing to help me promote my music via festivals in July at Music In The Pines and August for a Women’s Festival and other events. I am honored. I am floored. I am blown away by how beauty can come from turmoil in times such as these.
The Universe indeed works in mysterious ways.
Road trip in 8 days. Odd timing for all of this.
As the flames burn away the old life a new life is born from the ashes.
Blessing in disguise? We shall see.
Thank you Universe for all that you have given me.
I feel SO BLESSED.
My album "Conscious Nonsense" is set to release at the beginning of May. "RevolNEWStion" magazine/online newspaper is set to release the first week of May.
I wish to help others and myself via my music, writing, art, and actions.
As I wish, so mote it be.
Amen.
Peace – Love – Freedom

"We didn't start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world's been turning
We didn't start the fire
No we didn't light it
But we tried to fight it"
